Separate marketing terms from materials

Check the case packaging or supplier description for TPU, silicone, rubber or a layered construction. Soft-touch coatings and mold-release residue can also affect the bond. If the material remains unknown, treat the project as experimental and use a low-value test case.

Test the amount of flex

Observe how far the back bends while the phone is inserted and removed. A thick cream glue panel may crack or peel when the case folds sharply. Plan smaller separated decorations on low-flex zones, but never block buttons, vents, cameras or wireless charging requirements.

Run a cured bend test

Clean as the case maker permits, pipe a representative bead and allow the full labeled cure. Bend the empty case only as much as normal use requires. Stop if the bead separates, cracks, stays oily or pulls the surface coating; a larger design would magnify the failure.

Choose the safer project route

If the test fails, switch to a compatible rigid case rather than trying household primers or aggressive sanding. Even after a passing test, insert and remove the phone carefully, inspect edges regularly and retire the case if loose charms could create a handling hazard.

Can I use a primer on silicone?

Why do the edges lift after inserting the phone?

The case likely flexes beyond what the cured decoration can tolerate, or the edge was a weak-bond zone. A rigid tested case is usually the better base.
